Wendy Antoniette Espinola Raigosa is a multidisciplinary artist based in California. In her artistic practice, she uses various mediums to explore subject matter related to life, loss, and memory. Raigosa accomplishes this by transcending the physicality of art into forms that are more fluid in structure. Installation, sculpture, and video; are mediums Raigosa uses to engage the idea of memory. Asking questions about what it means to be a conscious being in a physical body, how can this consciousness transcend after passing? The usage of fiber materials is also critical to Raigosa. It connects to her history of being the daughter of an immigrant and who's grandmother used this ancestral knowledge to transform her lineage's lives by becoming a fabric worker in the garment industry.
The work of Raigosa is made to question, to comfort, and to provide strength. It is a medium to return what was lost and demonstrate the power of ancestry and the transference of knowledge. |
